"Break a Leg"

Gerry Foran came up through the Showband era, of the 60s, playing with the Woodpeckers Showband in 1960 and then forming the Paragon 7 Showband in 1962 with three other members of the Woodpeckers. He toured extensively in America with the Paragon 7 taking in New York, Chicago, Boston, Las Vegas and Washington. He made quite a few records including the love ballad ''I can't get you out of my Heart''. With the Paragon 7 he toured Germany and performed in Stuggart, Cologne, Munich and the famous Star Club in Hamburg where the Beatles performed before they became famous. He wrote and recorded six songs to celebrate Dundalk's Heritage Year (1200th birthday) and in 1988 was part of a film The Story of Harp Lager on the making of Harp Lager. The film was filmed on several locations around town including Loughrans Bar, Carrick Road and featured many locals. Gerry played the part of being the first person to have tasted Harp Lager in the world. He was also a presenter (Brick Wallis) on the first radio station in Dundalk ''Radio Dundalk''. In 1988 Gerry published his first book of poetry, followed by three more books titled ''Poems, Rhymes and Tongue in Cheek Vol 1 to 4''. Gerry has spent eighteen years researching for a book on the History of Entertainment of Dundalk and Surrounding Areas from 1849 to 2006 which features stories and interviews from the past and present with people from every aspect of entertainment with many photographs to compliment each story. With the book finally completed, it was both bulky and heavy and he was quoted E45.000 to have it printed, and since he couldn't raise the money through sponsorship, he decided to divide it into four volumes and published a Vol in December 2006. This he called ''Break a Leg'' Vol 2 with Vol 3 being released in September 2007. Vol 4 comes in 2008 and then and only then will Vol 1 be published.
